It's a microbial world
A beautiful brightfield microscope image of the fungi Aspergillus.  Some species in the Aspergillus genus grow on corn and peanuts and produce aflatoxin, a poison that at high concentrations can cause liver failure or cancer when ingested on contaminated foods.  You may remember stories about aflatoxin poisoning of dogs from contaminated dogfood a few years back, but aflatoxin poisoning is actually very rare.
